If we desire a society of peace, then we cannot resort to violence. If we desire a society where gender, race, religion, etc is equal, we cannot choose to discriminate. The day we build such a society is the day we win, not as an Indian or an American, as a Christian or a Muslim but as a Human.

This Ugly Society

Our society has become so negligent and irresponsible
While I wistfully ruminate-
When will all of this change?
When will I wake up to something better?

We see young activists propogate principles of peace
Yet there continues to exist such places, where people
Wake up to the shattering sound of gunshots
And walk through bombed craters and crevices

Most of the songs on the radio
Are vulgar and inappropriate
But that’s what everyone listens to
So artists get paid for it

People are recklessly wasting food
Just to get more YouTube views
While there are people who haven’t eaten in weeks
How terrible can this get?

I was taught, that violence is never the answer
But history textbooks taught me
That freedom and independance was gained
By wars fought by soldiers

The headlines of the news are filled with
Conjecture and one sided opinions
Portrayals of corruption and rape-cases
Flashes on bloodshed and extortion

People are struggling, using drugs not to feel
They’re forced to rob and steal
No one is ready to accept whats real
So they put on an ostentatious veil

Scandalous villains and criminals are getting away
By paying their way out
While we see the innocent incarcerated
Just because the couldn’t pay

Our education system is flawed
Students are failing tests,
Getting depressed
And cutting themselves

Societal issues impede progress
These issues are piling upon each other,
Growing like a cancerous tumor
It looks like now, there’s no cure

These thoughts have taken me aback
Humanity does not deserve this
We were blessed with life on this planet
I wonder how can we preserve this
